Two situations in which a person inside their home should call an emergency locksmith

Hello! My name is Danny and I recently had a couple of safes installed. I have a safe installed in the office of my business so I could keep any money and important documents safe when I am not around. At home, I had a gun safe installed in my basement so I could store my shotguns safely and securely. It was only when chatting to the locksmith that I realised how little I knew about the professional. I have since called in the same locksmith so he could review the security of my home and I have learnt an awful lot.

Here are two situations in which a person who isn't locked out of their home but is actually inside of it should call an emergency locksmith.

They've broken their exterior door's lock and cannot keep the door locked

If a person has caused damage to their exterior door's lock (by, for example, repeatedly turning their key in it too aggressively) and the lock breaks and cannot be used to secure the door, then this person should call an emergency locksmith. Whilst hiring a non-emergency locksmith could be cheaper, this professional might not be available for a day or so and the person might have to keep their exterior door unlocked during this period.

Leaving the lock unrepaired for this extended bout of time could increase the likelihood of an intruder entering their property and could result in this person having to spend a sleepless night waiting for this professional to show up, whilst worrying for the safety of their belongings and themselves. Furthermore, if someone did enter their home through its unlocked door and snatched some of the person's belongings, the person might have a hard time making a claim on their home contents insurance. This is because the insurance provider might point out that the person had the option of quickly securing their home and preventing this incident by calling an emergency locksmith, but chose not to do this.

Conversely, if a person in this situation hires an emergency locksmith, this professional would probably be available much sooner and might be able to repair the lock (or install a replacement) within an hour or two of receiving this request. This could make this incident less worrisome for this person and greatly reduce the chances of an intruder getting into their home.

Their claustrophobic relative has accidentally locked themselves in a room

If a person's claustrophobic relative accidentally locks themselves inside a room in their home (for example, if they lock the bathroom door and then drop the key down the sink drain or are too weak to open the sliding bolt lock), this person should hire an emergency locksmith so they can get their family member out of the room as fast as possible.

It's important to do this, even if there's nothing in the room that could pose a risk to the relative's safety. The reason for this is that if it takes a long time for the locksmith to arrive and open the door, this individual could become so panicky that they might try to, for example, climb out the window. If the room is on one of the building's upper floors, this could be dangerous. By ensuring that the door is unlocked quickly by an emergency locksmith, the person can minimise the stress this experience inflicts on their family member and prevent them from doing anything drastic to try to get out.
